Making better variaties faster

Solynta’s hybrid  breeding technology is based on the principle that by carefully selecting and breeding parent lines of potato, it is possible by crossing these parent lines to create new hybrid offspring varieties which exhibit particular characteristics. In the same way Mendel discovered more than 200 years ago could combine favourable traits in peas, we can now finally selectively breed potatoes which are tastier, bigger, healthier or more nutritious. Furthermore, our technology also enables us to quickly and efficiently introduce new characteristics which are helpful to farmers – so we can combine the good features of existing potatoes varieties with new ‘introduced’ traits, such as drought resistance. Basically we are cross-pollinating plants in the same way that a bee could; our technology does not involve any genetic modification and all Solynta’s products are GM-free.
